Bravo Tango Rwandan Single Origin Coffee

Description

Our very own in house single origin and ethically sourced Rwandan coffee, roasted in small batches for an even medium roast packed with lots of rich flavours.

The Twongere Kawa Coko Cooperative was founded in 2009 and is still a small Co-op with 134 members. Situated in the Coko sector of the Gakenke region, these farms are at high altitude. Thérèse Nyrangwabije, the co-operative’s President, is very proud of the way in which the members have focused on post-harvest quality. The Coffee undergoes a double fermentation period of approx. 24 hours and then is then dried on raised tables. Parchment is stored in a ventilated warehouse to allow the moisture to homogenize (also known as conditioning) to ensure consistency.

This attention to detail has resulted in a very high quality and consistent cup profile across all the out turns produced. Over the past couple of years there have been impressive investment in infrastructure including a new office and a new parchment store. By forming a cooperative, these women can access opportunities that were in the distance past unobtainable:

Its  the women who are most involved in their households – so when you help them, you help their whole family. It makes me very proud to be one of the few female co-operative presidents, but it’s also something I’d like to see change in the future. During my working life I’ve defied expectations to earn the trust and respect of my colleagues and the community, so that’s something I’d like to see happen for the women of the co-operative, too.”

The result of this passion and attention to detail is a fully washed coffee that demonstrates the best features of a high grown Rwandan Bourbon. Bright acidity blends with good body finishes with Tropical fruits, Apricot and Blackberry.
